2012 BMW G 650 GS Sertao Concept

2012 BMW G 650 GS Sertao Concept BMW has launched the new 2012 BMW G650GS Sertão, has single cylinder which suitable for both off-road and everyday use. Named for a dry backlands region of northeastern Brazil, the G650GS Sertão has more sporty look than the standard G 650 GS and it is designed to be more off-road effective and still has technical features and comfort of a regular road bike.

Using the competent and well-liked – but relatively unexciting – G 650 GS as the donor bike, the Sertao looks set to be even more go-getting with wire-spoked wheels, longer travel suspension and more ground clearance.

Whereas the G 650 GS chassis was developed primarily for country roads and light off-road use, the Sertao presents far greater offroad practicality in the form of longer spring travels and tighter tuning. In addition, it is fitted with wire spoke wheels.

Utilizing the standard GS-issue motor, a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 652cc motor with dual-overhead camshafts and fuel injection, the Sertao G650GS makes a claimed 48 horsepower at 6500 rpm; but there's an option for reduced output of 34 horsepower at 6500 rpm.

Several off-road ready accessories are standard on the Sertão including: aluminum engine guard, high windscreen, hand protectors, and extended front wheel mud guard. Dealer options include BMW Motorrad ABS which can be turned off (likely standard in the U.S.), heated grips, Vario saddlebags, topcase, tinted high windscreen, crash bars and the taller seat mentioned previously.
